With the holidays approaching, Buy Idaho has several media opportunities to showcase the Buy Idaho brand and our members. This is great exposure to feature your products and services just in time for the holidays. For information call the Buy Idaho office: 208-343-2582.

1.      Nov. 28-Dec. 2. KBOI, Channel 2 in Boise will be featuring Buy Idaho gift giving ideas in their morning newscast every day this week. Tune in and watch for Buy Idaho starting at 6am.

2.      Dec. 3 and Dec. 17. KMVT, Channel 11 in Twin Falls will be hosting live Holiday Auctions offering half-priced gift certificates from local merchants. They have offered Buy Idaho a co-sponsorship of the event and will focus on shopping locally for the holidays. Buy Idaho members are invited to participate. Businesses donate $1000 worth of gift certificates and viewers can call in and purchase the certificates for half-price. The gift certificates can be in dominations of your choice and should display the Buy Idaho logo if possible. Participating businesses will be interviewed live throughout the broadcast and will be mentioned in all of the promotions leading up to the sale.

3.      Dec. 6. KRVB, 94.9 The River in Boise will be hosting a charity concert/auction and would like us to compile a Buy Idaho auction item with products donated by our members. The radio station will credit Buy Idaho and the members who donate with signage at the event. The concert is held at the Knitting Factory in Boise and benefits The Learning Lab. Six hundred people are expected to attend.

4.      Dec. 5-Dec. 23. KTHI, 107.1 K-Hits in Boise has a holiday, on-air game called “Shake the Tree”. Listeners call in to win cash and prizes. The station will credit Buy Idaho and our members who donate prizes live, on-air, when someone wins a Buy Idaho prize.

Buy Idaho has announced a new Executive Director, Sandy Anderson.  The introduction was made at the Buy Idaho Annual Meeting on October 5^th. Sandy looks forward to bringing her experience with the media and expertise in sales, marketing, and new business development to help grow Buy Idaho. She addressed the audience stating, “Buy Idaho is a cause I genuinely believe in. It is a lifestyle I try to practice when I make decisions about the products and services I buy every day.”

Sandy spent 8 years with Journal Broadcast Group managing multi-media sponsorships, executing company events, and developing new avenues of revenue.  Previous to that, Sandy was the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Boise River Festival.

Governor C.L. ‘Butch Otter’ was the keynote speaker at the Buy Idaho Annual Meeting on October 5^th. He spoke about the tremendous success of the organization and the value it has brought its members. “We need to be doing business with one another”, Otter emphasized to a group of 150 Buy Idaho members. Governor Otter was a co-founder of Buy Idaho 25 years ago.

Buy Idaho celebrates 25 years this year. In 1986, Butch Otter's bid for the Lt. Governor's office, provided him the opportunity to travel the state. He hosted town hall meetings and listened to Idahoans. From Idaho concerns, Otter developed the blueprint of 'Buy Idaho' with the message if Idaho businesses buy and sell from each other and if we spend our dollars here at home by supporting local, regional, and state companies, we can keep our dollars circulating over and over and grow a healthy economy. And he took this message to the JR Simplot company, where he was employed at the time, to promote local buying of products and services.

After Otter was elected, 'Buy Idaho' the concept became 'Buy Idaho' the organization. For 25 years, we have remained a nonprofit, statewide, fully funded membership association dedicated to promoting Idaho businesses. We believe in the spirit of cooperation and the timeless message that to keep Idaho's economy strong...Buy Idaho products and services.

To support our members, we have a Buy Idaho showroom where they can display their products or services. We print quarterly newsletters, an exclusive Member Directory, and a website link to our members' websites. We produce TV and radio public service announcements, networking opportunities through tradeshows and have embraced social media by having a presence on Facebook and Twitter.

Recently, Buy Idaho brought together Board directors and members to form a Strategic and Planning Committee to review where we've been and where we're going. Our mission is the same but we are developing critical goals and actions to strengthen our commitment to our members. To that end we have streamlined our Mission Statement:

To promote and connect Idaho businesses, their products and services, to the people of Idaho and beyond.

It’s been an exciting time for Buy Idaho. Buy Idaho membership is doing very well in spite of the many challenges facing our members. We want to continue to do our part in increasing exposure for our members; so we are introducing some changes.

Buy Idaho has implemented a new website that is user friendly to our members. Our Buy Idaho members can keep their company information updated by accessing their own company profiles. Member photos can be uploaded, renewals can be paid online and communication with the Buy Idaho office is a click away. Visitors to our website will be able to read about our members and their companies before linking to their websites. To see the changes, go to our website at www.buyidaho.org.

Buy Idaho is blogging about our members through the ’Member Spotlight’ button and anyone will be able to read about it on the Buy Idaho home page.  This same information is sent to our Twitter account and beyond….

We have embraced the social media blitz with Buy Idaho joining Facebook. This gives us another opportunity to brag about our members and what is happening in their lives. It’s a free and effective way to promote the Buy Idaho message: That to keep Idaho’s economy strong…Buy Idaho Products and Services! All it will take is the time to type comments and hit the ‘like’ button over and over. Facebook currently has 600 million followers and is growing larger daily. We will reach a population demographic we do not currently access and that is the teen to twenty’s age group. Since they are the next generation to work and buy in Idaho, it’s a great opportunity to let them know about our Buy Idaho members; from printing graduation announcements to buying locally made chips and salsa.

Buy Idaho is so very proud to partner with our members and promote the message to continue to support our friends and neighbors’ businesses; buy from them, and that keeps our communities strong and healthy. Thank you Buy Idaho members and we appreciate your membership!

The Buy Idaho Showroom is located in beautiful downtown Boise, Idaho. People from all over the world take time to come and see what Idaho companies have to offer. Today, they came from Iraq.

Young business leaders from the Salahaddin Province in Iraq have been invited to Idaho by the Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program and the Idaho Council for International Visitors Boise State University. Buy Idaho President, Board of Directors, Dave Wagers, owner of Idaho Candy Company, joined staff Leslie and Barbara in welcoming Iraq to Idaho. Buy Idaho was the first of many places scheduled to visit over three days.

A great big thank you to Carole Schroeder and Dr. Uwe Reischl of Idaho Council for International Visitors for including the Buy Idaho Showroom as a destination place for the Iraq delegation. 

Idaho is a destination place. People visit us from all over the world and tell us what a fabulous state Idaho is.  People choose to live here, work here and raise their families here. We at Buy Idaho want the world to know we have the best products and services barr none! Thanks to renewing Buy Idaho members; we can continue to promote the message that we support our friends and neighbors when we Buy Idaho local, regional, and state wide.
