40 Years Behind Us. Idaho’s Future Ahead.

For 40 years, Buy Idaho has carried a simple idea forward: when Idaho businesses succeed, Idaho succeeds.

In 1986, Buy Idaho was created to encourage Idahoans to look closer to home when making purchasing decisions—and to give Idaho businesses a stronger voice in the marketplace. What began as a movement to promote “Made in Idaho” has grown alongside the state itself, becoming a statewide network of businesses, entrepreneurs, makers, manufacturers, retailers, service providers, farmers, restaurants, nonprofits, and community leaders who believe in the power of keeping commerce close to home.

Four decades later, Idaho looks very different.

Our population has grown. Our industries have expanded. Technology has transformed the way businesses operate. New entrepreneurs arrive with new ideas, while generations-old Idaho companies continue to build, employ, innovate, and serve their communities.

And through all of that change, one thing has remained remarkably consistent:

People matter. Character matters. Quality matters. And helping one another matters.

A Legacy Built by Idaho Businesses

Buy Idaho’s history is really the history of the businesses that have made this state what it is.

For 40 years, members have opened their doors, taken risks, created jobs, built products, served customers, supported their communities, and invested in Idaho. Some have grown into household names. Others are small businesses known primarily within their own communities. Some have been members for decades, while others are just getting started.

Each one is part of the story.

Buy Idaho has evolved with Idaho’s economy while preserving the values that made the organization special from the beginning: promoting local businesses, creating connections, encouraging Idaho commerce, and giving businesses an opportunity to be seen.

Today, Buy Idaho is more than a logo or a directory listing. It is a network and a resource designed to help Idaho businesses find one another, learn from one another, and create opportunities together.

From Buying Local to Building Local

The meaning of “Buy Idaho” has expanded.

Buying local is still at the heart of what we do—but today, supporting Idaho businesses means more than choosing an Idaho-made product from a store shelf.

It means helping a small business find a wholesale buyer.

It means connecting an entrepreneur with the right resource.

It means helping a manufacturer find an Idaho supplier.

It means introducing a retailer to a local producer.

It means creating opportunities for businesses to collaborate instead of competing for the same limited space.

It means helping Idaho companies understand how to grow, how to sell, how to connect, and how to become part of something bigger than themselves.

That vision is at the heart of the next chapter of Buy Idaho.

Looking Ahead

As Buy Idaho enters its 40th year, we aren’t simply looking backward.

We’re looking at what comes next.

40 years behind us. Idaho’s future ahead.

The next 40 years will bring challenges we cannot predict and opportunities we have not yet imagined. Idaho’s economy will continue to change. New industries will emerge. New entrepreneurs will build businesses we haven’t seen before. Technology will reshape how we work and sell. Communities will grow and change.

Buy Idaho’s role is not to hold Idaho back to what it was.

It is to help Idaho businesses move forward—together.

That means strengthening the connections between businesses across the state. It means creating meaningful opportunities to meet buyers, customers, partners, and one another. It means providing practical education and resources. It means helping Idaho businesses compete in a changing marketplace without losing the values that make doing business in Idaho different.

And it means continuing to ask an important question:

How can we make it easier for Idaho businesses to succeed in Idaho?

The Next Chapter Belongs to All of Us

A strong local economy doesn’t happen because of one organization, one business, or one purchase.

It happens when thousands of people make thousands of decisions every day to support the businesses around them.

It happens when a business owner chooses another Idaho company as a supplier.

When a consumer chooses an Idaho-made product.

When a restaurant sources from a local producer.

When a retailer gives shelf space to an Idaho brand.

When an entrepreneur reaches out to another business owner and says, “How can we work together?”

Those choices add up.

They create jobs. They keep dollars circulating in our communities. They help businesses grow. They preserve knowledge and craftsmanship. They create opportunities for the next generation of Idaho entrepreneurs.

Most importantly, they create a culture where businesses don’t have to build alone.

40 Years Is Something to Celebrate

Forty years is a milestone worth celebrating—but it is also a reminder of the responsibility that comes with a legacy.

We owe something to the people who built Buy Idaho.

We owe something to the businesses that believed in the mission and supported it for decades.

And we owe something to the Idaho businesses that are just getting started.

Their future is Idaho’s future.

So as we celebrate four decades of Buy Idaho, we celebrate the past with gratitude—but we look toward the future with purpose.

Because the best part of Buy Idaho’s story may not be what happened during the last 40 years.

It may be what Idaho businesses build together during the next 40.

Here’s to the entrepreneurs who will take the next risk.

The businesses that will create the next Idaho-made product.

The partnerships that haven’t happened yet.

The communities that haven’t been built yet.

And the generations of Idaho businesses still to come.

40 years behind us.
Idaho’s future ahead.

And we’re just getting started.

Come celebrate 40 years with us on October 6, 2026, from 6pm-9pm at ICONIC by 3 Girls Catering.  Tickets can be purchased at www.buyidaho.org/events
